Alerts and Alarms

High and Low Alerts

With Dexcom G6 CGM, you have the power to customise your alerts so you always know when you're heading high or low.

Urgent Low Soon Alert

At times, glucose levels fall quickly. The new Urgent Low Soon alert with Dexcom G6 is designed to provide a 20-minute advance warning of when you'll reach 3.1 mmol/L, so you can act quickly to avoid a potential severe hypoglycaemic event.

Alert Schedule

Do you want to be alerted differently during the day than at night time or the weekends? The new Alert Schedule setting with Dexcom G6 allows you to customise a second group of alerts to provide you with the flexibility you need for your busy life.

Can my Dexcom G6 connect with my pump?

The Dexcom G6 is also intended to autonomously communicate with digitally connected devices, including automated insulin dosing (AID) systems (pumps). The Dexcom G6 System can be used alone or in conjunction with these digitally connected medical devices for the purpose of managing diabetes.

How do I insert my Dexcom G6 Sensor?

Dexcom designed the Dexcom G6 CGM System sensor auto-applicator for easier, more consistent sensor insertions. We recommend viewing the following video for a helpful demonstration of the sensor insertion and transmitter attachment process.

Where can I insert my Dexcom G6 sensor?

Dexcom G6 sensors may be inserted on the abdomen, the back of the upper arm (indicated for patients age 2 years and older) or the upper buttocks (ages 2-17 years). Sensor placement is important and you will want to change your insertion site with each sensor. Using the same site too often might not allow the skin to heal, causing scarring or skin irritation.

Choose a site:

  • At least 3 inches from any insulin pump infusion set or injection site
  • Away from waistbands, scarring, tattoos, irritation, and bones
  • Unlikely to be bumped, pushed, or laid on while sleeping

Follow the Dexcom G6 instructions for use. If you don't, you could experience a severe low or high glucose event. If you have any questions regarding sensor insertion, placement, or otherwise, please refer to the Dexcom G6 User Guide for additional information.

What smart devices are compatible with Dexcom G6 app?

A variety of iOS and Android smart devices are compatible with G6. Compatibility is listed here: www.dexcom.com/compatibility

Can I view Dexcom G6 CGM data on apple watch?

Yes, you can check your CGM information on your Apple Watch! The Dexcom G6 app supports Apple Watch and can be used to discreetly view your glucose reading, trend arrow, and trend graph. Use the digital crown to scroll the trend graph view between 1, 3, or 6 hours of data.

You can also view your number and arrow as a complication on your watch face. You can choose from 5 complication styles depending on your preferred watch face.

To set up Dexcom G6 on your Apple Watch, you'll need to use the Watch app located on your compatible iPhone*. To add complications, use the Watch app to choose your preferred watch face and complication style. If you would like the color of your Dexcom complication to reflect your glucose status, choose the multicolor option for the watch face.

See your Apple Watch instructions for more details on setting up an app on the Apple Watch.

When you wake your Apple Watch, it syncs your current CGM data from your compatible iPhone. There may be a brief delay before your watch app or complication shows current information. Place the Dexcom G6 app in the Dock and enable the background app refresh for best performance. Apple limits the number of times 3rd party apps, like Dexcom, can refresh watch complications. As a result, you may see "---" instead of a number throughout the day. We understand this may cause you an inconvenience. If you need to access your CGM data immediately, please open your G6 app.

Please note that your Apple Watch will only communicate with your compatible iPhone, not the Dexcom G6 transmitter. You will not receive alarm/alerts or other notifications on the Apple Watch unless it is connected with your compatible iPhone. For example, if you have your watch on and you go out, but leave your iPhone at home, you will not receive any CGM updates.

*Compatibility: For a list of compatible devices, visit www.dexcom.com/compatibility.

Are Dexcom G6 transmitters waterproof?

The Dexcom G6 CGM System's transmitters are water resistant. The G6 Sensor Pod is water resistant when the transmitter is installed properly. The receiver is not water resistant or waterproof, and can be damaged if moisture gets inside it. Water can also severely limit communication range with the G6, so you never want to prevent communication between the transmitter and display devices. This could cause the receiver to become damaged and a patient to miss a severe low or high blood glucose event or make a treatment decision that can result in injury. There is more information available in the Dexcom G6 CGM System User Guide.

Dexcom is the right CGM system for you if:

  • You have type 1 diabetes and may need extra support such as people who are hypo unaware, children or those using a connected insulin pump.
