how to determine what gauge for an iver johnson champion
Have an Iver Johnson 12 ga single shot Champion. The only # I see is 36581 stamped on the side of the hammer. Is this the serial #? If then, tin someone tell me the age of the shotgun? Thanks.

I see nil on the lesser tang. A bit rusty & what I suppose was chrome type plating is gone. Appears to be polish with no indication of series number removal. Besides, the number I previously listed (36581) was not on the hammer just on the barrel latch on the breech cease visable when the butt and stock are broke to load.
Thanks for taking the time to reply.

two old dogs: I likewise wanted to cheers for your knowledge, it is appreciated that y'all take time to pass on your knowledge for things like this. I took my 16 gauge out this weekend and shot her for my offset time, it is the beginning time the gun had been fired in over fifty years. The gun shoots great and will exist a swell bird gun for another 100 years. Pretty absurd to proceed these things in the family for that long, a keen matter to bond families over generations.
